Shower Glass Protective Coating

Hi, Joshua here! Owner and lead installer at Glass Accents. I just wanted to bend your ear for a moment about a topic that is near and dear to my heart: glass shower protective coating. I know, it seems like a topic that is only meant for a handful of people, but I assure you, if you have glass in your home (and I know you do) you will want to keep reading. I have some important information regarding keeping your new custom glass shower looking clean and new for years to come.

Let’s lay down some basics first, well, just one very pertinent one, and that is the simple fact that glass is porous. Technically, glass is a liquid and so it is always moving, expanding, and shifting throughout its lifetime and while that is pretty cool, it can also be quite problematic.

Have you ever found yourself constantly cleaning the same spots on your glass shower doors only to be temporarily satisfied with the “cleanliness” and then having to do that same song and dance over and over again? You are not alone. That is because water carries microscopic minerals, including calcium and soap residue, that make a home within the pores of the glass. Once dried, these deposits begin to corrode the clear view and begin to appear what we commonly refer to as “hard water spots”. Unfortunately, once that corrosion takes place it is impossible to restore to its original state.

While many glass shower cleaning products claim to have a solution to getting rid of hard water spots and buildup, these solutions are temporary and often the ingredients are filled with harsh chemicals that only bleach the stains rather than actually remove them. I don’t know about you, but I have certainly fallen victim to the promises of these potions only to find myself scrubbing away at that same spot the very next week.
